How We Help with Legal Aid

Accepting Legal Aid grants

If you have already been granted Legal Aid for a family law or criminal law matter, we can act as your solicitor under that grant. You will receive the same level of service and attention as any privately funded client.

Helping you apply

If you have not yet applied, we can help you with the application process. We will make sure your application is completed correctly, that the right supporting documents are included, and that you have the best chance of approval.

Understanding your eligibility

Legal Aid NSW assesses eligibility based on your financial situation, the type of legal problem you have, and the merits of your case. It can be confusing to work out whether you qualify. We can talk you through the criteria and give you an honest assessment of where you stand before you apply.

Managing your grant

If your application is approved, we help you make the most of your grant. We ensure the work stays within the grant's terms while still working toward the best legal outcome for your situation.

Not Eligible for Legal Aid?

If you do not qualify for Legal Aid, that does not mean you cannot access legal help. We offer fixed fees for many straightforward matters, payment plans to spread the cost over time, and a free initial phone consultation to help you understand your situation and options before committing to anything.

We will always discuss costs openly and put them in writing before any work begins. No surprises.

Common Questions

Legal Aid is government-funded legal assistance for people who cannot afford to pay for a lawyer. In NSW, it is administered by Legal Aid NSW. If you are eligible, Legal Aid covers all or part of your legal costs for certain types of matters. We accept Legal Aid grants and can help you apply.

Eligibility is based on three main factors: your financial situation, the type of legal matter, and the merits of your case. Not all types of legal matters are covered. We can talk you through the criteria and give you an honest assessment of your likelihood of qualifying. Call us for a free initial chat.

You may be able to appeal the decision, particularly if your circumstances have changed or if additional information was not included in the original application. Alternatively, we can discuss other ways to fund your legal matter, including fixed fees and payment plans. Being refused Legal Aid does not mean you cannot get legal help.

No. You will receive the same level of care, attention, and representation as any other client. Your matter is handled by the same solicitor using the same approach. The funding source does not change how we work.
